GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — The suspect in a Grand Rapids stabbing turned himself in to police on Tuesday.
The incident happened around 8:41 p.m. Friday at California Closets, located at 4930 Kraft Ave. SE. Authorities were called to the business on a report of a stabbing and shots being fired in the area.
When deputies arrived, the suspect and victim had left the area where the stabbing happened. The victim was eventually found in the parking lot of the Baymont Inn on 28th Street as he was being taken to the hospital by a bystander, where he was treated for injuries that weren’t life-threatening.
Authorities were unable to locate the suspect, 46-year-old Pietro Mapp, until he turned himself in on Tuesday. He is being held at the Kent County Jail without bond and is facing a charge of assault with intent to murder.
Authorities said preliminary information indicates that the suspect is the boyfriend of a female co-worker of the victim. The suspect is believed to be jealous because of a perceived relationship between the victim and his girlfriend.
