GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — The woman’s body found in Grand Rapids Sunday, prompting a suspicious death investigation, had been dismembered, a source with knowledge of the investigation told 24 Hour News 8.

The Grand Rapids Police Department spokesperson did not confirm that information. The source spoke on the condition of anonymity because they are not authorized to speak publicly about the case.

GRPD has been tight-lipped about the details of what it’s calling a “sensitive case.” Investigators haven’t said who they think the victim is, how long she has been dead or how she died. They say they have to be meticulous about what information is released so as not to jeopardize their investigation, which is why they didn’t expect to have an update for the public until Tuesday.

The body was found in the area of Franklin Street and Dolbee Avenue SE, where police had a house taped off for hours Sunday as they investigated. After a judge granted a search warrant, they entered the home and took one person away in handcuffs.

Records confirm that same man was booked into the Kent County jail Monday.

GRPD said detectives met with members of the Kent County Prosecutor’s Office Monday, but didn’t say about what.

Residents in the area where the body was found told 24 Hour News 8 they weren’t surprised to see a parade of police lights and crime scene tape, saying the neighborhood has had problems in the past.

“I didn’t think I was in danger, particularly because of how many people were right around, but I also wasn’t sure,” neighbor Jordan Sinkel said. “I have faith that I’m protected and safe.”

Some neighbors told 24 Hour News 8 they want more information about what’s happening. Others said they believe the area is improving.
