A company spokesman says the number of customers impacted went up to 1,877 shortly before 3 p.m., when Consumers Energy had to de-energize the system to make it safe for crews to repair downed lines on 28th Street near Division Avenue.
A photo sent to ReportIt showed smoke rising near the downed lines. The fire department had blocked the eastbound lanes.
Crews restored power to the majority of customers before 5 p.m. Monday.
