GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Police are investigating a deadly shooting on Grand Rapids’ southeast side early Monday morning.
The Grand Rapids Police Department said the shooting happened shortly before 4:30 a.m. on Dallas Avenue SE between Fisk Road SE and Hall Street SE. It’s near the intersection of Hall Street SE and Fuller Avenue SE.
Authorities received several 911 calls of reports of gunshots and a man down on Dallas Avenue SE, according to a GRPD news release. Neighbors told News 8 that they woke up to a loud screaming fight, followed by at least two dozen gunshots.
The 30-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene, the release said. Neighbors said the victim was known as a kind man who frequented weekend barbeques at nearby homes.
His name was not released pending family notification.
The police department said no suspect information was available as of Monday morning. They added that the public is not in any danger.
It’s unknown what led to the shooting.
The GRPD Major Case Team is investigating the case.
