GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — A 17-year-old was killed in a three-car crash in southeast Grand Rapids Thursday afternoon, police say.

The crash happened around 3:15 p.m. Thursday in the area of Dallas Avenue and Watkins Street SE, just west of Martin Luther King Park.

The Grand Rapids Police Department says the driver of the first car ran away before first responders arrived. The second car drove away. It was soon spotted a few blocks away, but the driver was nowhere to be found.

The people in the third car waited for emergency responders and are cooperating with the investigation, police said.

Police said two people were taken to the hospital. One of them, a 17-year-old girl who was a passenger in the first vehicle, died. Her name wasn’t released Thursday evening.

The other patient’s injuries are not considered life-threatening.
