GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Authorities say a teen was shot and killed early Saturday morning on the southeast side of Grand Rapids.

It happened just before 5 a.m. in the 1100 block of Prince Street SE west of Fuller Avenue.

Grand Rapids police say when officers arrived, they found a teenage boy with a gunshot wound. He died at the scene.

Police say the shooting was the result of an altercation, though they didn’t explain further.

“This senseless murder of a young man with so much life ahead of him is absolutely intolerable in our community. It’s nothing short of a tragedy,” Grand Rapids Police Department Chief Eric Payne said in a statement.

Police have not released suspect description. Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call detectives at 616.456.3380 or Silent Observer at 616.774.2345.
