GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — A new pop-up dog park is coming to downtown Grand Rapids.
The Grand Rapids Downtown Development board approved the park on Wednesday. It will be located at 210 Market Ave. SW near Founders Brewing Co.
“The concept of the dog park is evolving throughout the United States, especially in urban areas as more people are trying to moving to the downtown area, especially in attracting more downtown residents to the space, being able to provide that amenity for all urban living and so that includes their fur babies,” Stephanie Wong, the project manager for the DDA, said.
The interim park, which will occupy an 8,000-square-foot piece of unused property, will be enclosed by a 6-foot-tall fence. It will have double-gated entrances, dog waste stations, rock seating and separate areas for small and large dogs.
Operating hours will be 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., seven days a week.
The park is expected to open in May as a short-term experiment. After one year, it will be reevaluated.
