GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Visitors to DeVos Performance Hall will encounter a new permanent feature during their next show: metal detectors.
SMG, which manages the venue, says from now on, all show-goers must pass through a metal detector as they enter the hall.
New security measures also include bag searches and requirements; only bags that are 14 inches by 14 inches by 6 inches or smaller will be allowed inside.
SMG says the security policy applies to all events and is consistent with its other measures at Van Andel Arena, which adopted metal detectors at entryways last year. SMG also announced last week it was scrapping its designated smoking area outside Van Andel Arena as part of “ongoing security enhancements.”
The company says the planters its installing along the Grand River side of DeVos Place as well as Monroe Avenue will also offer more safety for pedestrians.
The planters should be installed by mid-September, a few weeks before SMG expects to finish adding stalls to its lobby restrooms.
