GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Police say a man is in the hospital with serious injuries after being attacked in downtown Grand Rapids.
It happened around 10:30 p.m. Wednesday in Rosa Parks Circle.
Sgt. Cathy Williams tells 24 Hour News 8 the victim may have “some mental instabilities” and may have said some inappropriate things that sparked the attack.
Williams says a group of four to six people took part in the beating. She says the victim, who is in his early 20s, was repeatedly kicked and punched in the head until he lost consciousness. He is in serious but stable condition and is too injured to speak, according to Williams.
Williams said police are not aware of anyone intervening to stop the assault.
Officers arrested two suspects downtown Wednesday night; Williams says they will likely be formally charged in the case Friday.
Police are reviewing photos and video to see if they can identify the other attackers.
It’s unclear if the victim knew his attackers.
