GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Grand Rapids Public Schools has selected an interim superintendent to take over when the current superintendent retires.
Ron Gorman, Ph.D., is currently the assistant superintendent of preschool through 12th-grade instructional support. He will take over the interim superintendent job July 1, school board members decided at a special work session Monday.
He’s been with the district for nearly two decades, during which time he has been an elementary and secondary teacher, assistant principal, athletic director, principal and the executive director of secondary schools.
GRPS is still looking for a permenant superintendent and the school board decided last month to turn to a national firm to aid in a second search. That comes after board members voted against hiring either of the two finalists for the job.
The school board hasn’t yet hired a search firm.
Current Superintendent Teresa Weatherall Neal will leave the district at the end of June.
