GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — A suspect in a school threat sent through Snapchat is in police custody, the spokesperson for Grand Rapids Public Schools says.

A message threatening a shooting Thursday at C.A. Frost Environmental Science Academy began circulating at the school Wednesday.

24 Hour News 8 alerted the district to the message Wednesday afternoon. Hours later, GRPS spokesman John Helmholdt said authorities had identified a suspect who was in police custody.

Helmholdt said the district is confident the situation is under control. As a precaution, GRPS plans to have additional security guards at school buildings Thursday morning.

Helmholdt said a letter about the situation will also go home with students Thursday.
