GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — A woman was thrown from a vehicle and a man pinned in after what police are calling a “road rage” incident led to a car crash and fire in Grand Rapids.

It happened Thursday evening on Burton Street SE between Plymouth Avenue and Breton Road.

Grand Rapids Police Department Sgt. Phil Nevins said witnesses told officers that two vehicles were initially spotted “racing” down Plymouth Avenue and then turned eastbound onto Burton.

One of them, a small SUV, ultimately slammed in to a tree and caught fire.

The passenger was ejected and the driver was pinned in. A passerby helped get the driver out of the SUV.

Both were hospitalized. Nevins didn’t know the severity of their injuries.

The second vehicle involved took off after the crash. Police are looking for it, but weren’t immediately prepared to release a description.
