GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Grand Rapids police are releasing the name of an Alto woman killed while crossing South Division.
Investigators say 66-year-old Noreen Traver died at the scene. Crash reconstructionists determined she was not using a crosswalk when she began making her way across South Division near Garden Street SE and was hit.
Police say speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors in the Saturday afternoon crash and everyone involved in the incident remains cooperative.
“It appears to be an unfortunate set of circumstances that resulted in a tragic loss of life,” the Grand Rapids Police Department said in a Monday news release.
Authorities say the driver, a 33-year-old man from Walker, and his passenger remained at the scene.
A witness told police that a second vehicle may have been involved, striking the pedestrian again. The investigation is ongoing.
