GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Drivers, rejoice: westbound I-96 is finally back open between Plainfield and Alpine avenues, just in time for the weekend.
The Michigan Department of Transportation announced the reopening shortly after 5 p.m. Friday on Twitter. However, MDOT says the on-ramp from Plainfield Avenue to westbound I-96 remains closed.

The westbound lanes of the highway have been closed since early July for bridge and road repairs, causing traffic headaches along the detour route all summer long.
The roadway was scheduled to be completed by 10 p.m. Thursday, but was delayed because of a labor dispute between the organization that represents the owners of road construction companies and the union that represents heavy equipment operators.
Several other road projects remain delayed because of the labor dispute.
