GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — A well-known radio host of the nationally syndicated “Free Beer & Hot Wings” show based in Grand Rapids is going to trial.
Joseph Gassmann, who goes by the stage name “Producer Joe” on the WGRD show, appeared in an Illinois courtroom Friday, where he pleaded not guilty to a charge of domestic battery. The judge agreed to modify his bond to allow him to stay at his home, according to the court.
The Chicago area native was arrested on March 18 in DuPage County. Naperville police say around 1:41 a.m. that day, Gassmann picked up his girlfriend and threw her to the ground. She landed on concrete and suffered marks to her shin, hand and chest, according to the police report obtained by 24 Hour News 8 through the Freedom of Information Act.
Gassman was suspended from “Free Beer & Hot Wings” shortly after his arrest, according to WGRD. Station general manager Rick Sarata said Gassman would remain off air pending the outcome of a police investigation.
Gassman’s trial is scheduled to go before a DuPage County Circuit Court Judge on May 22.
