GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — A former Grand Rapids Catholic Central High School student found guilty of sexual assault was sentenced Wednesday in Grand Rapids.
Cameron Cross was sentenced to 45 days in jail with credit for 11 days and two years of probation. The jail time is set to start on June 1 at 8 a.m., so that Cross has time to graduate from high school.
Cross was convicted of three counts of fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct in January.
A teen girl said Cross groped her at Catholic Central in February 2018. At the time, she was 15 and Cross was 17. He was later expelled.
In court Wednesdy, a statement from the teen girl described the ongoing effects of the case.
“Social media has affected me a lot, to the point where I’m scared to make a post or to accept a friend request like a normal teenager because I don’t know if they’re going to try to harrass me,” the statement read. “Everything I have is private because I feel like I will be judged for anything that I post, even though I’m trying to prove that my life is getting better.”
Cross was originally charged in two cases, but one was dismissed in April 2018.
