GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — A new hotel overlooking the Grand River in downtown Grand Rapids is now welcoming guests.
City leaders celebrated the grand opening of Embassy Suites by Hilton Grand Rapids Downtown with a ribbon cutting ceremony Thursday.
The hotel is located at 710 N. Monroe, overlooking Sixth Street Park in the city’s North Monroe District. It’s the first Embassy Suites brand hotel in West Michigan and the only one consisting exclusively of suites in the downtown area.
Work on the seven-story hotel started in 2017. The facility features 250 two-room suites, Big E’s Sports Grill, a Michigan-shaped indoor pool and a whirlpool.
Suburban Inns operates Embassy Suites. Its CEO thinks the hotel could serve as an important anchor along the Grand River, especially as plans to restore its rapids move forward.
“We’ve added our 400 parking spaces downtown in an area that needs them. We’re excited to be part of the whole rapid revitalization that’s being done. We’re part of the landing, if you will. Whether (you’re) landing for a weekend in town or (you’re) landing in your kayak to come get a bite to eat,” said Suburban Inns CEO Peter Beukema.
Embassy Suites also includes on on-site bar, market and coffee shop.
