GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — If you just can’t wait for the next shot of bitterly cold temperatures headed for West Michigan next week, you can get in on the ice this weekend.
Disney On Ice presents “Frozen” is showing at Van Andel Arena Friday through Sunday.
The cast of the show is heading to China in the spring, but for now they’re in Grand Rapids, which suites one member just fine because she calls the Mitten State home.
“I grew up skating about an hour from Lapeer in Rochester and then I skated for the University of Michigan when I went to school, there so skating’s in my blood,” Erica Miller said.
Her job title is tour coordinator, but she has a simpler way of describing it: team mom. She is in charge of booking flights, hotels and buses for 60 people who travel with the show.
“We’re all really one big family. I might be the mom, but everyone is super welcoming,” Miller said.
It’s a big family with members from around the world. Skaters from Finland, Canada and Russia are featured in some of the main roles. There are also some who are new to the “Frozen” lifestyle, like one person from Florida.
“He was actually telling me the other night that he went out in the parking lot and was trying to build a snowman ’cause he’d never done that,” Miller said.
While many may be ready to sing “Let it Go” to this winter season, West Michigan is still frozen, so “Frozen” is feeling right at home.
Tickets start at $15 and can be purchased at Van Andel Arena and DeVos Place Box Office.
