GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — An autopsy determined that a Grand Rapids assisted living home resident whose death was under investigation died natural causes.

The 90-year-old woman who was living at Heron Manor Assisted Living off of Leonard Street NE died Tuesday. Kent County Medical Examiner Dr. Stephen Cohle said she appeared to have injuries to her abdomen that were “suspicious,” so he asked police to interview staff at the nursing home to determine their cause.

Cohle said Wednesday that upon further examination, that abdominal injury actually turned out to be an ulcer.

The Grand Rapids Police Department said the woman’s death was not the result of a fall, trauma, neglect or mistreatment and there was no evidence she had been a victim of such. GRPD has wrapped up its investigation.
