GR Balloon Festival benefits Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital

HUDSONVILLE, Mich. (WOOD) The skies around Grand Rapids will be filled with colorful hot air balloons this weekend. Friday and Saturday is the Grand Rapids Balloon Festival that benefits Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital. There are 27 balloons that will be part of the festival, with the hope of doing 3 different launches.

When: Friday, July 22 and Saturday, July 23

Where: 5235 Park Avenue, Hudsonville, MI 49426

Cost: $5 parking, admission is free

Thursday, July 21 (Ah-Nab-Awen Park)

6:00 PM – 10:00 PM : Picnic in the Park: Balloon Walk & Night Glow

Walk inside a RE/MAX hot air balloon for $1 and watch as the hot air balloons “glow” throughout the night sky. There will also be live music and information about the festival.

Friday, July 22 (Hudsonville Fairgrounds)

7:00 PM – 8:00 PM : The Balloon Guy (main stage)

Watch as The Balloon Guy provides the audience with awesome animal balloon twisting. The Balloon Guy and his balloon twisting talents are the perfect entertainment for the whole family.

8:00 PM – 8:30 PM : Balloon Launches (time is dependent on weather conditions)

Watch the pilots unpack their balloons (it’s surprising how small the balloons are when they are packed up) and prepare their balloons for f light. Watch the pilots inflate, raise their bright colorful balloons, and launch into the sky!9:00 PM – 9:30 PM : “Night Glow”

As the sun goes down, the pilots will inflate their balloons, light up their burners, and brighten up the sky! The balloons stay on the ground to produce a dazzling display!

Saturday, July 23 (Hudsonville Fairgrounds)

6:30 AM – 8:00 AM : Balloon Fly-Ins (no admission charge & time is dependent on weather conditions)

The Pilots will launch their balloons at a “to be determined” site (depending on the wind direction) and will f ly into the fairgrounds balloon area, aiming for a target.
