GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — A fire at a law office building may affect some drivers in downtown Grand Rapids.
A passerby called 911 around 12:45 a.m. Thursday after noticing heavy smoke coming from the Barrister’s Building, located at the corner of Lyon Street and Division Avenue near Grand Rapids Community College.
Fire officials say the fire started in the basement and then moved to the second floor causing significant damage. The building did not have smoke alarms or sprinklers.
No one was injured in the fire.
Consumers Energy had to shut off power to the building and one across the road, but traffic lights are still working.
Lyon Street is closed east of Division as fire crews remain on scene.
