Ex-Emmett Twp. officer pleads no contest to strangling

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) — A former public safety officer charged with sexual assault has taken a plea deal.

Troy Estree pleaded no contest to assault by strangulation Tuesday.

In return, prosecutors agreed to drop one count of first-degree criminal sexual conduct and two counts of third-degree criminal sexual conduct, according to the Kalamazoo County District Court.

Estree was originally arrested in August 2014 and accused of sexually assaulting a teen relative in his Emmett Township home. He was acquitted in that case in January 2016.

Estree is no longer an employee of the Emmett Township Department of Public Safety, the agency confirmed Wednesday.

He is expected back in court on July 11 for sentencing.
