GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — An Ottawa County paramedic hospitalized for months after being injured by a suspected drunk driver will be able to spend Thanksgiving at home with his family.

A group of people from Life EMS and AMR escorted Tim Hoffman as he was released from Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital on Wednesday. Fellow first-responders applauded and hugged Hoffman as he arrived home later that day.

Hoffman, an American Medical Response EMT, was riding in the back of an ambulance on Aug. 7 when it was struck by a suspected drunk driver on Blue Star Highway, south of Holland. Both he and fellow EMT Kevin Jongekryg were hospitalized after the crash.

Over several months, Hoffman had to undergo multiple surgeries, including when surgeons had to place a plate in his head where a bone was damaged and removed after the crash.
