GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Libertarian candidate for governor Bill Gelineau has chosen southeast Michigan business owner Angelique Chaiser Thomas as his running mate.
Gelineau, himself a businessman, announced his pick Wednesday.
The party says Thomas, 41, is a former criminal defense and family law attorney. She co-founded Manufacturing and Design Electronics, which makes printed circuit boards, in 2010. She lives in Lake Orion with her husband and their two children.
“Angelique brings a strong desire for justice together with a keen understanding of the principles of freedom,” Gelineau said in a statement. “Clearly, our effort to reach new audiences and build our campaign could not have done better.”
Thomas is expected to be formalized as Gelineau’s partner this weekend at the Libertarian Party convention in metro Detroit.
Republican candidate Bill Schuette chose former state Rep. and current Kent County Clerk Lisa Posthumus Lyons as his running mate, and Democrat Gretchen Whitmer picked Garlin Gilchrist, who previously worked for Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan and President Barack Obama’s campaign.
