HOLLAND, Mich. (WOOD) — Some lanes of a busy bridge over the Macatawa River in Holland were shut down for hours Tuesday after a truck pulled down some power lines.
Police say a dump truck drove under the power lines on Pine Avenue near the River Avenue bridge with its bed raised, snagging the lines and dragging them down. As a result, the southbound lanes were closed starting before 10:30 a.m.
Around 4 p.m., crews fixing the damage were setting up utility poles, which didn’t require them to block the road, so it was reopened for about two hours. The southbound lanes closed again around 6 p.m. for the last of the repair work, and all lanes reopened around 6:45 p.m. Police didn’t anticipate any more closures.
The dump truck driver, a 67-year-old Hamilton man, was not hurt and there were no reports of any other injuries.
