Detroit FBI seeks man in child exploitation case

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — The Detroit division of the FBI is asking for the public’s help to find a man who may have information about the victim in a sexual exploitation investigation.

The FBI refers to the man as John Doe 37 and describes him as a white male with brown hair and dark-framed glasses. The FBI provided two partial images of the man and a sketch of him.

The FBI says the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children first noticed the man in videos with a child in June 2014. However, authorities say the videos were actually recorded in April 2012. In that video, the movie “The Land Before Time” can be heard playing in the background.

A Wednesday release from the FBI did not indicate whether authorities have any knowledge of John Doe 37’s whereabouts.

The release also didn’t describe the man as a suspect. Instead, it said only that he may have “critical information pertaining to the identity of a child victim.”

Anyone with information is asked to call the FBI’s tip line at 1.800.225.5324 or submit a tip online.

The search for John Doe 37 is part of the FBI’s Operation Rescue me and Endangered Child Alert Program, which work to find victims and suspects in exploitative material.
