DORR TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — Deputies say a man shot and injured his stepdad and then turned the gun on himself following an argument at a home in Allegan County.

Authorities were called to the home in the 1200 block of 142nd Avenue in Dorr Township, north of Wayland, just after 4 a.m. Wednesday.

The Allegan County Sheriff’s Department says an argument between two brothers in their 20s and their stepfather, a man in his mid-40s, escalated when one of the brothers went upstairs and grabbed a rifle.

Witnesses told deputies the man came back downstairs and discharged the rifle, injuring his stepdad. The man then turned the gun on himself and died on scene, according to the sheriff’s department.

The stepdad was later taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The names of those involved have not been released.

Deputies and investigators are still talking to witnesses and gathering evidence. The sheriff’s department says details could change as all the evidence is collected and the Medical Examiner’s Office completes their investigation.
