OSHTEMO TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD)- A Kalamazoo County man who shot and killed another man following a dispute will not face criminal charges.

The Kalamazoo County Prosecutor’s Office announced its decision in the case of 23-year-old Brandon Groetsema Friday.

Groetsema shot 27-year-old Bryan Bigham at the Woodland Estates mobile home park in Oshtemo Township on Oct. 6. Bigham later died at the hospital.

Authorities told 24 Hour News 8 Bigham was highly intoxicated while visiting his girlfriend, whom he got into an argument with. Screams from the home awoke Groetsema, who had a gun with him, detectives said.

Groetsema found Bigham hiding behind a shed. During their conversation, Groetsema told detectives Bigham threatened him and charged him twice before he shot him.

“It’s up to God to judge him (Groetsema),” Bigham’s father told 24 Hour News 8 a day after the shooting.

The prosecutor’s office said the circumstances sounding the case were tragic, but the available evidence supported Groetsema’s claim of self defense.
