Car driver killed in Alpine Ave. crash involving bus

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — A man was killed Monday after the car he was driving collided with a bus in Grand Rapids.

It happened around 4:15 p.m. Monday on Alpine Avenue at Pannell Street NW, between Ann Street and Richmond Avenue.

Grand Rapids police say a Rapid bus was heading north on Alpine Avenue when the southbound car turned left in front of it and the vehicles collided. The bus then hit a light pole, which it dragged down the road.

The driver of the car, identified by police Monday night as 62-year-old Gregory Resner of Grand Rapids, was killed.

Police say 15 people were aboard the bus; none of the passengers were injured.

Alpine Avenue was shut down in both directions while emergency responders were on the scene.
