Bystanders save life of man pulled from Diamond Lake

CASS COUNTY, Mich. (WOOD) — The Cass County Sheriff is crediting relatives and neighbors with saving the life of a man pulled from Diamond Lake.

Paul Schafer, 84, was unresponsive when he was rescued from the water Friday, according to Sheriff Joseph Underwood. Two days later, the Bremen, Indiana man was out of South Bend Memorial Hospital and expected to make a full recovery.

First responders said family members and neighbors who performed CPR under the direction of a dispatcher played a major role in Schafer’s recovery.
