WOODLAND TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — One person was killed in a head-on crash in Barry County Thursday morning.
The two-vehicle crash happened around 7:35 a.m. in the 8600 block of Coats Grove Road near M-66 in Woodland Township, northeast of Hastings.
Coats Grove Road remains closed between M-66 and Woodland Road while authorities investigate the crash. Drivers are advised to avoid the area and seek an alternative route.
The Barry County Sheriff’s Office says a van was heading eastbound when it struck by a westbound vehicle with three people inside.
The driver of the van was killed. Authorities are not releasing their name pending family notification. A 4-year-old child who was inside the vehicle was taken by ambulance to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The sheriff’s office told 24 Hour News 8 that the driver of the westbound vehicle was taken to the hospital by a private vehicle with non-life-threatening injuries. Two passengers suffered minor injuries, but were not taken to the hospital.
Deputies told 24 Hour News 8 that investigators believe the sun may have been a factor in the crash. Alcohol doesn’t appear to be a factor.
