Authorities: Unknown minivan approaches teen

PARK TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — The Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after a 16-year-old reported she was approached by a strange vehicle as she jogged on Wednesday.

It happened as the teen was jogging near the intersection of 152nd Avenue and James Street in Park Township.

The girl told the sheriff’s office that a white minivan slowed down and someone inside tried to speak with her. She didn’t recognize the people in the van, so she ran home, where she called authorities.

Capt. Mark Bennett said the sheriff’s department has contacted Holland police about a similar incident reported near Hope College earlier this week.

In that case, a woman reported between four and five men in a small white vehicle followed her as she was jogging near Centennial Park. One of the men then got out of the vehicle and chased her on foot. She ran away and was not hurt.
