GEORGETOWN TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — The Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office is releasing the names of the people involved in a deadly crash in Georgetown Township.
It happened on 36th Avenue south of Beechgrove Lane around 8 a.m. Friday.
The preliminary investigation indicates 50-year-old Rebecca Kunst of Hudsonville was driving south on 36th Avenue when she lost control on the slippery road, sending her Toyota Corolla sliding across the center line and into the path of a Jeep Grand Cherokee. The impact of the crash sent Kunst’s car into the guard rail.
Kunst, who authorities said was not wearing a seat belt, was killed in the crash. Her front seat passenger, 19-year-old Chinese exchange student Jason Lou, was critically injured.
The two Hudsonville residents in the other vehicle were not injured.
Authorities shut down both directions of 36th Avenue between Rosewood Street and Port Sheldon for nearly three hours to investigate and clear the wreckage. The road reopened around 11 a.m.
