GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Don’t look now, but ArtPrize is right around the corner.
ArtPrize 10 begins a month from Sunday, but the world’s largest art competition cannot happen without a lot of extra help.
The event has become huge as Grand Rapids welcomes visitors not only from all over the state, but from outside of Michigan and other countries.
On Wednesday, organizers put out their annual plea for volunteers. They’re looking for 1,000 people to give their time during the two-week competition.
Since ArtPrize started 10 years ago, 6,500 people have stepped up to volunteer more than 105,000 hours of their time.
“Anyone with a lot of enthusiasm for GR and ArtPrize, there are a lot of different ways to get involved … We’re looking for volunteers interested in helping our education programs, our events. Just helping the event run smoothly,” said Katherine Hagman, ArtPrize volunteer program manager.
People must be 18 years old to volunteer. More information on how to do it can be found on ArtPrize’s website.
ArtPrize 10 starts Sept. 19.
