TV show hopes to track down W MI murder suspect

Allegan County

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — The premiere episode of a new Investigation Discovery program will cover the murder of a West Michigan woman four years ago and her husband’s run from the law.

The case of Sara and Harold “Butch” Knight will be included on “In Pursuit with John Walsh” at 10 p.m. Wednesday.

In January 2015, deputies found 48-year-old Sara Knight dead in her Fennville-area home. She had been strangled.

Authorities went there after someone called 911 saying he had harmed Sara Knight and that he was fleeing the country. The caller was later identified by Sara Knight’s son as her husband Butch Knight.

A couple of days later, Butch Knight was spotted in Maine, near the Canadian border. He had dyed his mustache and was wearing a camouflage outfit.

Then he vanished. No one knows where he is now.

But shortly after the murder, he sent a package to his wife’s mother containing $2,000 in cash and a rambling letter in which he offered an apparent motive for the killing — it had to do with his use or selling of drugs — and said police would never catch him.

In the following months, police say, Knight may have used his wife’s Facebook account.

The U.S. Marshals are still looking for Butch Knight, now 70. Anyone who knows where he may be or who has any more information on the case is asked to call the Marshals at 1.877.926.8332.
