OVERISEL TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — A relative has identified the woman killed in a house fire in Allegan County Thursday, the Holland Sentinel reports.

A family member told the Sentinel 59-year-old Kimberley Czerkies died in the fire, which happened in the 4600 block of 46th Street near 146th Avenue in Overisel Township, southeast of Holland.

Crews responded to the fire around 10:13 a.m.; the Sentinel says dispatchers indicated a woman in a wheelchair was trapped inside the burning home.

The Allegan County Sheriff’s Office says a deputy and a neighbor tried to get into the home to help, but had to turn back because of the intense smoke and flames.

Crews from five fire departments responded to the fire; smoke could be seen for miles.

Firefighters found one person dead inside the home after squelching the fire.

The sheriff’s office is not confirming the identity of the victim at this time. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
