FILLMORE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — The Allegan County Sheriff’s Office says a wrong-way driver deputies stopped on I-196 was under the influence of alcohol and marijuana.
The driver was spotted around 2:54 a.m. Thursday heading west in the eastbound lanes of I-196 near the Allegan-Ottawa county line. The sheriff’s office says one of its deputies had his emergency lights and siren activated as he tried to stop the driver, but the suspect passed him. Other deputies joined the effort and helped safely bring the driver to a stop.
The sheriff’s office says the driver, a 23-year-old man, was arrested for operating while intoxicated. Authorities are withholding his name until he’s formally charged in the case.
