EAST LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — Emergency crews are at the Michigan State University power plant where there is a reported spill of hundreds of gallons of sulfuric acid.

Access to the T.B. Simon Power Plant on the 300 block of Service Road is blocked while crews are working to contain the spill and keep it out of the drains and sewer system.

The spill was first reported just before 9:00 a.m. Tuesday.

There are no reports of injuries.

Simon Power Plant is a co-generation plant that provides steam, heat and electricity for the university. Also known as “combined heat and power,” the plant utilizes steam to generate electricity. Boilers create steam that passes through a turbine generator and the electricity and the steam are then distributed across campus.
