HOWELL TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) — Authorities have responded to a freight-train derailment in southeastern Michigan that forced about two dozen cars off the tracks but caused no injuries.

WHMI-FM and the Livingston Daily Press & Argus report the train derailed Sunday morning in Livingston County’s Howell Township. A property owner who alerted sheriff’s officials says the derailed cars took down several trees.

The locomotive remained upright and on the tracks.

Howell Area Fire Department Assistant Chief Brian Anderson says investigators are trying to figure out the cause of the derailment. The train was on its way to an Owosso rail yard and the grain cars were empty.
