GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Restaurant Week Grand Rapids on Tuesday presented its annual donation to a fund that provides scholarships for local culinary students.
Restaurant Week donated $16,000 to the Grand Rapids Community College Foundation, a release from event organizers said. Additionally, six GRCC Secchia Institute for Culinary Education students were each awarded a $1,000 scholarship: Mike Aswani, Justin Back, Kaylee Mulder, Emily Neigarth, Sarah Rae Samrick and Ryan Wall.
Restaurant Week was held between Aug. 10 and Aug. 21 this year. One dollar from each meal collected by the more than 60 participating restaurants went toward the donation to the foundation.
The SICE Student Scholarship Fund now totals some $126,906 since the Restaurant Week started donating in 2010, according to organizers. $20,000 in scholarships has been awarded since then.
