KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) — Two Western Michigan University students have been kicked off the football team after they were arrested for a home invasion.
Freshmen Ron George and Bryson White were immediately suspended after their arrest Friday night. A Sunday release from WMU said they had been dismissed from the team.
“This has been a difficult time for our University, community and football family,” Broncos head coach P.J. Fleck said in a statement. “With this action we are moving forward and we are focusing our attention on Northwestern.”
WMU opens its season against Northwestern on Saturday.
George, 18, is a linebacker from Pennsylvania. White, 20, is a wide receiver from Ohio. They’re accused of forcing their way into a woman’s apartment near WMU campus in Kalamazoo on Friday, threatening her with a gun and then ransacking the home.
Police tracked them down because White had apparently previously texted the victim and sent her suggestive Twitter messages, one of which listed his address.
George and White both face home invasion charges and more charges could be added when they are arraigned, which is expected to happen Monday.
