1 seriously hurt in crash involving semi near Greenville


FAIRPLAIN TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — A woman was airlifted to the hospital Friday after the vehicle she was in collided with a semi-truck near Greenville.

It happened around 9:45 a.m. at the intersection of Sheridan and Carson City Roads in Fairplain Township, east of Greenville, according to a Michigan State Police news release.

Investigators say the driver of the semi-truck, 51-year-old Eric Hampton of St. Johns, was turning eastbound on Carson City Road when a Saturn Vue was unable to stop and struck the front of the semi.

There were four people inside the Vue at the time of the crash. The driver, 65-year-old Michael Wright of Sidney, and a rear passenger were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The front passenger, 61-year-old Patricia Wright of Sidney, was airlifted to the hospital with serious injuries.

The fourth passenger inside the Vue and the driver of the semi were not injured.

The crash remains under investigation.
