BIG RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Ferris State football survived a late comeback effort on Saturday to advance in the Division II playoffs.
The Bulldogs won their matchup against Northwest Missouri State 27-21 to move on to the quarterfinals.
Ferris State amassed 608 yards of offense in the game, but still had to rely on its defense late to squeak out a victory. With a 27-14 lead going into the fourth quarter, Northwest Missouri State connected on a touchdown pass with 14 seconds left to bring the score to 27-21.
The Bearcats went on to recover an onside kick on the ensuing kickoff to set up a last-second chance to steal a win. However, the Bulldogs’ defense forced a fumble and recovered the ball to put away the game.
Ferris State will play its first road game of the playoffs next Saturday against Ouachita Baptist (Ark.)
