With all the extra people coming into town for ArtPrize, the City of Grand Rapids and Sacred Beginnings have teamed up to increase awareness about human trafficking and help provide resources for survivors. Leslie King is here to tell us more about the effort.
Sacred Beginnings is the first survivor-led recovery program for victims of sex trafficking and sexual exploitation in Grand Rapids. Sacred Beginnings is growing and they’re excited to announce a new recovery home opening soon.
How you can help:
Anti-trafficking at ArtPrize: stop by their booth to get swag and raise awareness about sex trafficking in Grand Rapids. They will also be collecting donations at their booth if you have toiletries/hygiene items to donate, they’ll be near the Gillett Bridge at Ah-Nab-Awen park from noon to 6pm on Saturday, September 22 and Wednesday, October 3.
If viewers are interested in getting involved in anti-trafficking efforts, Sacred Beginnings is collecting donations for survivors. They are putting together kits with toiletries such as shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste, toothbrushes and others that survivors don’t have access to. They’re also collecting gift cards for gas stations and fast food. These are helpful for survivors who come to Grand Rapids for court and may not have the money for gas or food while they’re here.
If you’re interested in donating, drop off toiletries or gift cards to City Hall at the 300 Monroe Ave NW or to Sacred Beginnings at 1366 Elliott St SE.
If you suspect sex trafficking or are in need of help, call the national trafficking hotline at 1 (888) 373 -7888. You can also text HELP or INFO to 233733
