Ride through GR history

Books have the ability to take us to faraway places, to help us explore other cultures and learn. One of the books that is part of this year’s GR Reads Program is “From Here to Eternity”. Written by a mortician named Caitlin Doughty, in the book she sets out to discover how other cultures care for their dead.

The Grand Rapids Public Library has set up great events tied into each of their book selections this summer and one event for this book explores the final resting places of some of the women who helped create our community.

We have Julia Bouwamp from the Greater Grand Rapids Women’s History Council and Johannah Jelks, from an organization called She Rides Her Own Way, that encourages women to get out and be active through biking.
