GRAND RAPIDS, Mich (WOOD) – Keeping your prostate healthy and reducing your risk of cancer is extremely important. As you age there is a lot you can do to keep your prostate healthy, and stay ahead of the game. Christopher Brede, MD, Urologist at Spectrum Health Medical Group joined eightWest to talk about prostate health and the upcoming event to learn more. ‘Hitting the Mark on Prostate Health’ is a free event on November 2nd where men can learn more about their risk for prostate cancer and more.

November is a great time to talk about prostate health, yet this is a topic that many men don’t openly discuss. More than 30 million men suffer from prostate conditions that negatively affect their quality of life. Each year, approximately 220,000 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer. There are conversations that can be had to make sure you are aware of your prostate health. The severity of symptoms in people who have BPH varies, but symptoms gradually worsen over time. Some symptoms include:

o Frequent or urgent need to urinate

o Increase frequency of urination at night

o Difficulty starting urination

o Weak urine stream

o Inability to completely empty the bladder

This is an important for men, and even their wives, to be educated on. Whether you are experiencing prostate problems, or just want to learn more about staying healthy and reducing your risk for prostate cancer, you’ll want to join Spectrum Health for this free event.
