On the farm with Kids’ Food Basket

In West Michigan, we know thousands of children are living at or near the poverty level, many of these kids often go to bed hungry each night.

Getting children and families connected to fresh, locally grown food has been a longtime goal of Kids’ Food Basket. It’s an organization that’s famous for getting sack suppers in the hands of children who need them.

Not too long ago, they decided to start growing their own food and now that it’s summer, their veggies are coming out of the ground and their urban farm is growing and flourishing. It’s still a work in progress but the farm, and the property it sits on, is opening the door to new and exciting opportunities for Kids Food Basket.

The urban agriculture initiative is opening up even more volunteer opportunities. Kids Food Basket is really an organization that depends on volunteers, whether it’s assembling sack suppers for children or tending to the farm.

If you have a group that would like to volunteer, head to www.kidsfoodbasket.org/ to sign up.
