There is a new option for patients who suffer from breathing issues. In West Michigan, there’s only one facility that offers advanced and comprehensive interventional pulmonology services, Spectrum Health. They have specialized clinics with experts in COPD, lung cancer, and other lung diseases.
Spectrum Health has the largest multidisciplinary group of lung specialists in the state and treats thousands of patients a year for breathing issues.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration recently approved the Zephyr® Endobronchial Valve System for treating severe emphysema patients. The Zephyr Valve is the first minimally-invasive device approved in the US for treating patients with severe emphysema.
With the help of the Zephyr Valve, Spectrum Health will be evaluating COPD patients that could be candidates to receive this treatment in order to improve quality of life, exercise tolerance and reduce. Right now Spectrum Health is the only health system in West Michigan where this treatment is.
