Racism, civil rights and violence against people of different cultural backgrounds, they’re all part of a big conversation that’s been happening in this country for a long time. And coming off the heels of Black History Month, we wanted to seek out places that are educating the public, teaching us more about the events and people who’ve shaped our history.

That led us to a gem of a museum, here in West Michigan, the Jim Crow Museum at Ferris State University. It takes an honest and hard look at our history, which is not all pretty. It also highlights African Americans who’ve achieved excellence and made outstanding contributions to society.
