8 things you didn’t know about Mayor Rosalynn Bliss


GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) March is Women’s History Month. Rosalynn Bliss is making history right now in Grand Rapids as the city’s first female mayor! Here are eight fun things you may not know about Mayor Bliss:

  1. Grew up in a family with ten children
  2. Spent much of her early childhood in the hospital and had to use crutches and a wheelchair
  3. Performed in children’s musicals while in college, including “Peter Pan” and “Peter and the Wolf”
  4. Wanted to be a meteorologist until she took a calculus class in college, then decided to become a social worker
  5. Met now-U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow while in college and was inspired by her passion and commitment to public service
  6. Favorite place for brunch is Terra in Eastown – and she soon might have a designated table there
  7. Enjoys listening to local music and attending music festivals
  8. Loves the outdoors – camping, hiking, and kayaking. Her favorite place is the Two Hearted River in the U.P. and she wants to kayak the entire length of the Grand River
